At Inner Dragon Martial Arts, our training goes far beyond punches, kicks, and forms. From the moment a student bows onto the mat, they begin a journey of character, discipline, and personal growth. It's a journey guided by our Student Creeds and powered by our Core Values: Respect, Integrity, Perseverance, and Excellence.
Let’s take a look at what that journey looks like through the eyes of a student—like Kai.
Step One: A Positive Beginning
“I will develop myself in a positive manner, and avoid anything that could reduce my mental growth or physical health.”
When Kai first joined Inner Dragon, he was eager to learn but unsure of what it truly meant to be a martial artist. This first creed helped him understand that the journey wasn’t just physical—it was mental and emotional too. Kai began making better choices, learning the importance of treating his body and mind with Respect. He started speaking more kindly to himself and others, staying focused in school, and learning how to block out negativity.
Step Two: Discipline in Action
“I will develop self-discipline in order to bring about the best in myself and others.”
As the techniques became more challenging, so did the need for self-discipline. Kai discovered that Integrity meant doing the right thing even when no one was watching. He practiced at home, encouraged classmates, and stayed consistent. This creed reminded him that martial arts isn’t about being better than others—it’s about becoming the best version of yourself and helping others do the same.
Step Three: Using Skills for Good
“I will use what I learn in class constructively to help myself and others and never be abusive or offensive.”
Kai was gaining confidence, but also responsibility. He began to understand that martial arts gave him power—and that power must be used with purpose. Whether it was stepping in to stop bullying at school or helping a teammate during drills, Kai chose to use his skills with kindness, patience, and Respect. He became a role model, not because of his rank, but because of how he treated others.
Step Four: Striving for Black Belt Excellence
“I will develop Black Belt Excellence by achieving modesty, courtesy, integrity, self-control, perseverance, and indomitable spirit.”
By now, Kai wasn't just saying the creeds—he was living them. He trained with Perseverance, even when things got hard. He showed Self-Control, even when he was frustrated. He stayed Humble in victory and Determined in defeat. This creed reminded him that the path to a Black Belt wasn’t just about skill—it was about character. He embodied the full spirit of what it means to Be Outstanding.
More Than a Belt—It’s a Way of Life
Kai’s journey is one that every Inner Dragon student walks in their own unique way. The creeds and core values aren’t just for class—they’re life skills that help our students thrive at school, at home, and in the community.
At Inner Dragon, we’re not just building martial artists—we’re building leaders.
